Fees
Please note that some of the applications / requests you make to the coroner’s court will involve the payment of a fee.
If you are unable to pay the fee, you may apply to the coroner to “waive” some or all of the fee so that you do not have to pay, or you pay less. To request that a fee be waived, you will need to write to the coroner’s court and provide all relevant information on the application, your financial situation and your ability to pay.
A copy of the coroner’s findings will automatically be sent to the senior next of kin at no cost.
The current fees for the coroner’s court are located in the Fees section of this website and also in the Coroners (fees, expenses and allowances) Regulations 2026 (Tas).

Please be advised that as of the 19 May 2026 there have been several changes to the Application to Access Coronial Records forms.
- 1. Applying to Access Coronial Records (Section 58C) - Senior Next of Kin only
If you are the legal senior next of kin to a deceased person, you may apply to access coronial records under section 58C of the Coroners Act.
The application must be made by completing the form here and emailing it to Coroners.Hbt@magistratescourt.tas.gov.au. Please note any application not made using the correct form or the correct email will not be considered.
Please also note that the Coroners Office is not able to provide legal advice or counselling support to applicants seeking coronial records, and the application is to be submitted via the provided email only. Due to resourcing constraints, the Coroners Office does not provide any telephone advice to applicants in this category. Applicants should seek their own legal or other advice regarding completing the application correctly.
Applicants are entitled to submit their application without seeking legal advice. However please be advised that any application that is incomplete or unclear is likely to result in the coroner being unable to make an order under the section. Therefore, the onus is upon the applicant to ensure a clear and detailed form is completed and submitted by using the above email.
The Coroners Court has produced information sheets for senior next of kin applying for coronial records under this section, and there is further information contained on our website. Our information sheets emphasise the likely confronting or distressing material that the applicant may receive as a result of their application.

The application form also warns applicants of the potential trauma and risks of receiving and viewing the material. For this reason, applicants should consider very carefully which records they are seeking. any support and assistance they may require when viewing the material, and the onus is upon the applicant to ensure their own safety and wellbeing.
