No 1 of 2003 - Magistrates Court (Civil Division) - Rules Amendments, and New Forms

Practitioners are advised that the Magistrates Court (Civil Division) Amendment Rules 2003 commenced on 9 April 2003 and contain a range of amendments relating to:

  • the registry in which an action is to proceed;

  • the service of documents;

  • pleadings

  • conciliation conferences;

  • the giving of evidence by audio or audio-visual link;

  • attachment orders;

  • assessment of costs; and

  • an increase in certain costs.

Practitioners are also advised that the Chief Magistrate has issued Practice Direction (No.1 of 2003) approving certain Forms for use in the Civil Division, with immediate effect. The Practice Direction is published on the website of the Magistrates Court of Tasmania, at the following Internet address:
