Interpreters

Arranging

Any person who is unable to fully understand or who has difficulty with English can ask for an interpreter in the courtroom.

The Court's staff will arrange for interpreter services when they are asked for.  The Court has locations at Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie.

Interpreters are usually in the courtroom, but a a speaker phone will be used wherean interpreter is only available by phone.

Costs

If the interpreter is arranged by the Court there will be no cost to the person who needs the interpreter service.

This is in accordance with the Government's policy for Tasmania's Culturally Diverse Society.
