Implement recommendations of the Court Security & Workplace Safety Committee

 

Ensure a secure Court environment for Magistrates, staff and clients through the use of appropriate security systems covering intellectual property, physical property and personnel in accordance with occupational health and safety principle.

 

Ensure compliance with Workplace Behaviour Policy and Guidelines

 

Performance Indicators

  • Reduction in the number of security incidents in courts and tribunals - trends over time
  • % and number of staff and court users satisfied with Court security - trends over time
  • Reduction of reportable OH&S incidents - trends over time
  • % of staff satisfied with OH&S - trends of time

Goal 7

Develop and maintain modern and accessible court facilities

 

Consult with the Department of Justice & Industrial Relations regarding improvements to the Court's physical infrastructure

 

Provide adequate accommodation for all court users

 

Ensure appropriate access to the physical environment of the Court to all clients, and particularly to those with disabilities, and those from culturally-diverse backgrounds in accordance with the Government's policy for Tasmania's Culturally Diverse Society. 

 

Ensure appropriate access to the intellectual property of the Court, such as judicial decisions, Court Practice Directions and Circulars, Court records, administrative directions and policies.

Goal 8 

Develop modern court practices and procedures through the use of technology

 

Strategies

Increase the use of electronic service delivery via:
  • electronic court rooms including PC's on Magistrates and Court Clerks' Benches, greater usage of court videolink facilities; electronic production of court orders in the court room etc.
  • development of electronic benchbooks containing networked electronic legal resources;
  • digital audio recording of court proceedings for transcript and other purposes; 
  • e-business opportunities provided that enable the Tasmanian community to transact their business with the Magistrates Court in an efficient and effective electronic environment, with such facilities as secure electronic filing of Court documents via the Internet;
  • obtain funding for further enhancement of CRIMES (Stage 2) by preparation of a Business Case supported by the Inter-Agency Steering Committee.
  • participate in the Criminal Justice Framework pilot project to test an electronic Court outcome notification pilot project involving the Magistrates Court and Tasmania Police using Legal XML software.
Implement professional training and development through electronic communications, particularly via the Court's Intranet

 

Increase the use of video conferencing facilities in metropolitan and regional areas
