Direction as to the presence and use of cameras, audio-recording equipment, radio receivers, transmitters and pagers on court premises


Cameras (including video recording equipment) and audio-recording equipment

  1. Cameras (including video recording equipment) and audio recording equipment may not be brought onto any premises occupied by the Magistrates Court of Tasmania except with the express prior approval of either the Chief Magistrate or the Administrator of the Magistrates Court and in accordance with any conditions as to its use to which the approval is subject.
  2. Notwithstanding paragraph 1, audio-recording equipment may be brought onto any premises occupied by the Court by representatives of the media without further approval, but such equipment may be used only for the purpose of recording court proceedings and only then in accordance with the Guidelines for Audio-Recording of Court Proceedings by Media Representatives dated 22 October 1998.
  3. Requests under paragraph 1 for approval should be directed to the Manager for the area in which the relevant Court premises are located.

Radio receivers, transmitters (including mobile telephones) and pagers

  1. Radio receivers, radio transmitters (including mobile telephones) and pagers must not be operational in a court-room in which a 'lower court' (within the meaning of the Magistrates Court Act 1987 section 3) is sitting without the express prior approval of the presiding judicial officer.
