Video-link Interviews with Ashley Detention Centre

To assist in the early finalisation of criminal proceedings involving young offenders remanded in custody, the Magistrates Court and the Department of Health & Human Services have agreed to offer the use of their video-link facilities at no cost to solicitors for the purpose of taking instructions from their clients.

Appointments should be timed to occur after 3.30pm in order to avoid any conflicting appointments at either the Magistrates Court or at Ashley Youth Detention Centre.

Practitioners are advised that solicitor-client confidentiality will be maintained by:

  • Solicitors using the protected witness video-link room at the court location; and

  • Ashley staff will supervise the Ashley client from outside the video-link room.
